Exciting New Government Grant to Fund Improvements to Village Halls10th April 2019
Jonathan Hird, Graduate Surveyor for H&H Land and Property, comments on the announcement and what is available:
“The government has just, this month, made available a new £3 million fund to village halls in rural communities across the country. Funding will be expected to support around 100 local building projects, and to help rural communities better connect. By using resources to refurbish, update, modernise or maintain these vital spaces, local villages will be able to ensure that their facilities do not get left behind.
“The funding of the grant will cover 20% of the total costs of each project, with grants offered from £10,000 to £75,000. This is an exciting opportunity for some village halls to improve their existing facilities and better provide for their local community at the same time. To apply for this government funding, the total costs of the overall project can range between £50,000 and £375,000.
“The releasing of these funds means encouraging the work of village hall improvements, which in some cases is long overdue. For example, money can be put towards internal maintenance and reconfiguration, new meeting rooms, necessary extensions, roof refurbishments, or renewal of bathrooms and kitchen facilities.”
“The aim of the grant funding is to ensure village halls are fit for purpose and help to support and improve the local rural economy. Beyond the Government grants, the remaining funding will be found from a combination of charity reserves, fundraising, local authority funding, and other grants such as the National Lottery Community Fund.
“Village hall committees continue to provide vital services, spaces and facilities for local parishes and rural populations. Guaranteeing their long-term future is important to all communities who benefit so greatly from their continued presence in village life”, concludes Jonathan.
