H&H Land and Property urge farmers not to miss out on funding in the Durham area21st June 2017
There have already been many successful applications made for the Durham Coast and Lowlands area LEADER Grant Scheme. A total of £1.584 million was made available to fund rural projects until 2020. LEADER is part of the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE), and is funded by the European Agriculture Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD).
To date, the LEADER Grant Scheme helped to support a number of rural and farm businesses in the area,” explains Tim Sedgewick of H&H Land and Property. “The LEADER Grant Scheme is an excellent source of funding for any business looking to enhance productivity, rural economic growth and support the local rural economy.”
Minimum grants of £2,500 are available with circa £170,000 maximum depending on European funding rules. Projects that qualify for the grant are dependent on the successful applications demonstrating that they can achieve an increase in any of the following:
- farm productivity
- support for micro and small businesses
- farm diversification
- a boost in rural tourism
- the provision of cultural and heritage activities
- providing a rural service
Examples of increasing farm productivity could be equipment to improve the efficient use of energy, water and fertiliser such as LED lighting in livestock housing or precision farming equipment. Investments to improve management of slurry and reduce the resilience on artificial fertiliser such as trailing show slurry systems are also considered, along with investment to improve animal handling.
Sarah Marshall-Newcomb Programme Coordinator for the Durham Coast and Lowlands area explained “Farmers and rural businesses can also gain grant support for diversification and tourism projects, LEADER really can support a great variety of project ideas.”
Tim continued: “We urge anyone looking to apply for the funding to make sure their applications are coherent and well put together.”
